Weary flower

I had flowers in coloured glass vases on the table for our curry night. The flowers, like me, are tired and droopy.

I wanted to loosen up and paint in a more lively way, I think things have tightened up lately. The problem with loosening up is that it is way too easy to get things wrong. Hence the wonky vase. I think that balance between correct but loose is crucial but very tricky.

  1. I like the role the shadow plays in this composition. I too have noticed that it's easy to get things wrong when trying to loosen up. In spite of the "wonky" vase I think this is a lovely painting.:)

  2. The wonky vase goes with the wonky flower! Nice touch with the spark of highlight. It makes it oddly real.

    1. Thank you, yes - I thought that about that little highlight, it made that little bit at the top of the vase look like glass, when the rest doesn't ! Strange.
